Flaws with consequences attached — each one written so it costs the character something on the page, not just in their bio.

Root it
A flaw is a survival strategy that outlived the situation it was built for.
- When did this behaviour work? What did it protect them from?
- Who taught it to them, on purpose or by accident?
- What do they call it when they describe themselves?
- What do the people closest to them call it?
- What would they have to grieve to give it up?
Add pressure
- Put the flaw in charge of a decision that affects someone they love.
- Give them a chance to succeed only by doing the opposite of the flaw.
- Let the flaw work — brilliantly — early, so nobody questions it until it's too late.
- Introduce someone with the same flaw, but worse.
Propagate this idea
- Flaw → the one relationship it has already damaged → your subplot.
- Flaw → the belief underneath it → your theme.
- Flaw → the moment it stops being funny → your midpoint.
